THIS STONE
WAS LAID
ON JULY 22 1896
BY
THE RIGHT REVEREND
JAMES MOORHOUSE DD
LORD BISHOP
OF MANCHESTER

We occasionally take a walk in Brabyns Park and in Marrple Bridge and this is the first time I’ve seen this stone, which is odd because as far as I know it’s been there for over 20 years. But it’s not from here and the building this was from didn’t stand anywhere near here. In fact the building was a boys school in Monsall in Manchester which is North Manchester and 13 miles away. In fact it was apparently part of St Augustine’s Church, and there is still a church in Monsall with the same name, whether it is the same place I don’t know. According to the article that explains how this stone was rescued and a bit of investigation, the school was on Sampson Lane, and no Sampson Lane exists in Manchester that I could find, so it’s might have been renamed. The church is on St Augustine St. Still it’s an interesting story and I recommend you having a look at the site to read more about the stone.
