When you want a little bit of Rome in your life then end up in Derby. Kedleston Hall to be precise. I’ll be honest the first pic is actually of the Pantheon in Rome, but the next one which in the aforementioned is based on the Pantheon in Rome, and I’m pretty sure I prefer the former.

I think the Kedleston hall dome is impressive but I’ll be honest I think the Doric columns made of alabaster (not marble) in the hall are better than this. I went years ago and you used to be able to walk the hall, but now you are set to strick paths, however I would still argue that you’re still free to walk about the rooms unlike places similar which for me is interesting and very worrying. I’m just waiting for me to trip over some carpet and headbutt some ancient harpsichord.

Anyway the point of this is that the dome of the at Kedleston Hall is based on the dome at the Pantheon in Rome and I think the Kedleston is better in appearance but I admit in impressiveness the Pantheon has to win purely because I don’t live in Rome.

Last time I was there, they had a load of cars there in some sort of small car exhibit, being a bit of a petrolhead that was an added extra. I did find a Caterham 7 which of course made me miss mine.

Anyway there are walks and all sorts, not just a hall to see.
